In the Footsteps of Gladiators
Taking your #family (including kids) with you anywhere is almost always a great feat, but I think you'll find it's worth any extra hassle. When we went on our #bucketlist trip to #Rome, it didn't take long to figure out the city was the perfect place for kids, and we didn't have any trouble finding things we all enjoyed, including a treasure hunt in the heart of the iconic Colosseum.
We had always dreamed of walking in the footsteps of the gladiators, so off to Rome we went.
We were a little apprehensive about joining a guided tour in the area as we were going with some friends and their son and the last thing we wanted was to drag a screaming child around the Colosseum!
We stayed in three hotels during our stay in Rome, the first was built in the 70s, Hotel Forum, an old fashioned traditionally Italian hotel overlooking the forum we would soon be exploring. The perfect hotel to truly experience Rome properly for the first time and perfectly located to stroll about the town in search of trinkets and a tasty slice of pizza.

We joined the local Tapsy Tour in Rome which promised to be very child friendly and educational as they specialise in tours for families with children. We took a leap of faith and set off to meet the rest of the group at the Piazza very close to the Forty Seven Hotel which we were staying in at the time, glamorous and within walking distance to the tour’s main starting points as it is situated between the two main forums.

The guide took the time to meet us all and hand out interactive booklets, the booklet used to interest the younger travellers in the group was great and included activities for both adults and children alike. There were funny anecdotes, educational songs and the chance to learn some Italian words while role playing.

You are asked to change your names Italian ones and you have to keep that name throughout the entire duration of the tour, the children absolutely loved it!
We chose the 3 hour tour starting in the Piazza Venezia, a glorious area filled with interesting people rushing about their daily duties. Upon arrival you are blown away by the views of the grandiose Roman Colosseum ahead of you, we were eager to admire it up close for the first time and discover its hidden meanings and details inside.
